The Importance of Being Earnest 2023

In their inaugural summer classic (non-Shakespeare addition), 4th Wall takes a stab at Oscar Wilde. The Importance of Being Earnest is a satire that is about 2 men, Algy and Jack, who both assume an alternate identity named Earnest so they can escape from their life of responsibility occasionally. This comes to a head when both men fall in love with each other’s young female relatives, both women having gotten to know them as Earnest. In a classic comedic trope, they are all stuck together over a weekend and hilarity ensues.

The cast of The Importance of Being Earnest (left to right): Kelly McKinney (Lane/Merriman), Daniel Clymer (Rev. Chasuble), Lizzie Schultz (Cecily), Garrett Rowe (Algy/Earnest), Brent Williamson (Jack/Earnest), Silvia Seidle (Gwendolen), Kelly Melcho (Lady Bracknell), Leah Hodson (Miss Prism)

Director’s Note from the program:

It took less than two hours for all of these players to convince me that this will be the best production our tiny group has ever put on. I am very proud of this cast, not only onstage, but off. This is one of those rare groups of individuals that just somehow seem to fit together perfectly. I would be amiss if I did not also mention how appreciative I am for the immense passion and work that my wife has put into this production as well. This is her first time sitting in the assistant director chair, and she was also in charge of costumes and props, so it’s been a lot of work going on when no one else is looking. Luckily for both of us, we have a driven group of talented performers who are willing to help find costume pieces, props, and even donate their lawn furniture for the set. I wish I could thank each one individually on here, but unfortunately I have a character limit. It has always been 4th Wall’s desire to work on intriguing storytelling with great characters leading the way. I think this script easily lends itself to our goals and our actors will put on one of the most hilarious productions you will see this year. So thank you for coming out to support us.
